Employee Computer updates

Hello Titans,


  During off-campus operations many of our office desktop computers have sat idle.  While we have mechanisms for instructional (lab and classroom) computers to turn them on remotely, we do not have the same policies in place for employee computers.  I have previously asked some of our IT staff to turn on employee computers as they find themselves working in various locations around campus.

  Why would I ask to have the computers turned on?  The answer is the large number of updates to Windows, anti-virus, and other software!  Updates can take quite awhile to download and install, in some cases we have heard of two-hour wait times for the processes to complete.  That is to be expected if a computer has not had updates for many months.

  In order to assist our colleagues, I have a request to employees that are working onsite - Can you take a few moments to turn on employee use computers in your areas?  It won’t take long to press the button, and you do not need to log in to the computers.  Simply having them powered on will help!  IT staff will continue to do this as well.

  Employees- if you know you are returning to campus, it would be very helpful to let IT know ahead of time so that we can make sure your technology is ready upon return.
